I am using Windows 10 and Audacity 2.1.3 (yes, after this I will be upgrading to the most current version). Last night I recorded video commentary for a video I was making, and this morning when I went to open the file, It gives me the same dialog box every time (I will attach a screenshot of it, along with the aup to this post). I am unable to open the file, and I am 100% sure that I am using the command File > Open every time. I even checked in my recovery folder (C:\Users\HP\AppData\Roaming\audacity\AutoSave), which appears to be empty. Is there any way I can save this file? It is 20 minutes long, so it would be very difficult to record again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you able to shed any light on how this happened? For example, did Audacity crash, or did the computer go to sleep before the project was saved?
There has been a lot of work in recent versions to make saving projects more robust. Any information about how data loss like this happens is helpful for the developers.
Yes. I saved the file before closing my laptop (I left it on… I do this all the time). I am pretty sure I also closed audacity before closing the laptop. Following this, when I opened the laptop later that night, I found that the computer had froze (not sure how, as it was fine when I last used it. It basically sat were I left it, untouched. It is not very old, and does not usually have issues. After discovering it was completely frozen, I had to hold the power button to manually shut it off, and then I turned it back on. I opened Audacity again this morning (the last time I had used Audacity was earlier last night, when it was working fine), and the file would not open. I even tried closing Audacity several times, and I checked all my other project files, which were fine.
