Error about "non-aligned content" - Version 3.6.1 Windows 11 64 bit

Hello everyone,
I’m from Italy and my english is very basic so please forgive my faults!
I keep having apparently random problem when I open a previously saved project with this warning:

This project contained stereo tracks with non-aligned content.
This feature is not supported in Audacity versions past 3.3.3.
These stereo tracks have been split into mono tracks.
As a result, some realtime effects may be missing.
Please verify that everything works as intended before saving.

I think something is wrong because all my tracks start at exactly ZERO, nor before, nor after it! So I’m really unable to understand what is that mentioned non-aligned content.

It’s so absurd because I just created my project and saved it regularly! It’s not an old project created with old audacity versions!
If something is wrong, it should warn me when I’m saving my project so I can avoid losing all my real time effects when I will re open the project!

It’s very bad because it’s super uncomfortable to work with mono-splitted tracks and sometimes I have lots of real time effects applied and it’s very sad to lose all of them.

Can someone help me with it? I can share my project, if you want to see it!
Thank you very much to everyone.

By the way, I ADORE AUDACITY, I’m not complaining at all! I’m just a little desperate but basically happy

See you soon, friends

I have the same sad experience. My work-around is to merge the two mono-tracks back to a stereo-track and ignore the repeated warning. (and in some projects multiple times.)
I hope this bug will be solved soon, as it is annoying.

Marcel

I’m having the same issue, and it’s very annoying. And merging the tracks is only a partial solution, since it looses all the data on the pieces of larger tracks and merges several pieces into one. So I can’t e.g. move or extend a piece

Hello, please feel free to share your project with us in any way convenient for you. We will look into it.
Also, if you could provide us with the steps we’d need to take to reproduce your issue, that’d be even better! Thanks.

Can’t share the project atm, and the steps are very simple:

  1. Create a new project, add some stereo tracks, edit them
  2. Save and close the project.
  3. Open the same project again. 50% times the “Non-aligned content” error will pop up, and some of the stereo tracks will be permanently converted to 2 mono tracks.

It happens not every time, not with every track and project. I haven’t been able to find any reliable way to reproduce it. It just happens, rather often too.

What OS are you using?

Nevermind. I’ve managed to reproduce it.

Hello! Can you provide me an email address where I can send the link to the content, saved on my Google drive?

That’s not needed anymore because I’ve managed to reproduce the issue myself, although it’s one of these “moon phase” bugs for me that isn’t reliably reproducible.

It’s very bad. This bug makes Audacity quite unreliable. That is, you never know if when I reopen a project, I will be able to use it or it will be corrupted. I really hope that in the next releases it will be fixed. Before the last update, this had never happened to me. Now it is very frequent indeed.
Thank you for your time!

We will try to fix it as soon as possible and (very likely) ship it along with 3.6.2.

Thanks for your replies! Is it already established, if the bug happens on save or on opening the project? I’m curious, will a broken project remain broken after the patch?
