Seems this is an occuring problem but earlier posts don’t seem helpful to me.
I recorded from YouTube without problems, and then suddenly this appears about an hour later when I tried to make a new recording. I didn’t make any changes in settings or anything. I have rebooted both Audacity and the computer and changed the settings back and forth (the Realtek setting was 16/48, but that was the case all along. Now it’s 16/44.1 but that doesn’t help.)
Suggestions?

Try starting playback before hitting Record. WASAPI won’t work if there is no Audio stream. (It can be a silent stream but it can’t be “nothing”.)
That’s just a guess… And I never trust that “sample rate” message…
Thanks for trying to help me! However, it didn’t work.

Did you work through this? : Error 9997
I thought I had, but obviously not. It worked when I changed to stereo (even if the stream was a jazz number from the mid-thirties, the original definitely not in stereo).
Thanks, evilmrb!

Hrmm, it worked - kind of. Now I can’t listen to or edit the track.
“Error opening sound device.\nTry changing the audio host, playback device and the project sample rate.”
I use the same settings as before. What am I missing this time?
Sorry, it’s sorted. I changed from WASAPI to Windows DirectSound.
