EnVivo Cassette Converter

I have been using Audacity 2.0.0 on Windows 7. I just bought an EnVivo cassette converter, for converting cassettes to MP3 files. The software disc included will install Audacity Version 1.2.6. Does that mean it will overwrite or delete Version 2.0.0? I have tried using the device with version 2.0.0, but it doesn’t transfer the music. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Audacity 1.2.6 is ancient and no longer supported.

It’s likely to be a set-up problem.

The current version of Audacity is 2.1.0, which you can get from here: Audacity ® | Download for Windows
Download the Recommended Downloads - Latest Version of Audacity “Audacity 2.1.0 installer (23.1 MB, includes help files)”
Install it with the default settings and it should update your current version to 2.1.0.
During the installation, look out for the option to “Reset Preferences” and ensure that it is selected.
The first time that you run 2.1.0 you should be prompted to confirm that you want to reset preferences - confirm that you want to reset.

If the USB device does not appear in the device toolbar:

  1. Close Audacity
  2. Ensure that the USB device is connected and look in the Windows Sound Control Panel “Recording” tab to check that Windows has found the device and the recording volume is turned up (you may need to turn the volume down later if the recording level is too high).
  3. Open Audacity and select the USB device as the recording input.
