When I use the envelope tool, and then cut/paste within a track, the cutting/pasting changes my envelopes entirely.
For example, I’ll use the envelope in a specific section of a track, then I’ll copy/paste something within that track, and then find that my envelope is no longer where I put it, but in a completely new section of the track.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Am I just not using the envelope tool correctly? (Should I only use it after I’ve done all of my cutting/pasting?)
Which exact version of Audacity? (there have been fairly recent bug fixes - there may still be some quirks)
Please post some screenshots showing the envelope control points (white dots) before and after the edit.
I’ve seen this phenomenon, too, but on Windows 10 with Audacity 2.1.1, see attached before and after screenshots, where I have copied the last word from the bottom track, and am pasting it into track “edit”. If I mix and render the target track before pasting, I do not get this effect. The RMS of the target track is unchanged when this occurs.
I can’t say it’s bug 527, though I’d guess them to have the same root cause. I couldn’t send my exact problem because I’ve mixed and rendered the track since that screenshot, so I’ve created a simplified project that shows the envelope changing at the paste point and also elsewhere. It’s ~22MB at http://www.philmayes.com/misc/envelope-problem.zip
Open the project, Ctrl-C, click in track 1 at around 1:00, Ctrl-V, the envelope changes. Note that if all of track2 is selected, the problem does not occur.
