Enter key not working (Audacity 2.3.1, macOS 10.14.3)

Hi,

I am a long term Audacity user but his is my first post on this forum and I struggled to find a solution to my problem using the forums search or Google.

I recently installed version 2.3.1 and wanted to normalize a track. Usually (with Audacity 2.2.2) I went to Effect → Normalize. Then I tab into the “Normalize peak amplitude to” field and enter the number I wish and then hit the enter key. But now I have to click the OK button.

I remember having the same problem a long time ago on another version of Audacity but I can’t remember which version that was.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

This is a known bug: https://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1329

title of the bug states: Mac: ENTER does not close/apply effects unless user has turned on Full Keyboard Access

The Release Note (which should show in the 2.3.1 Release Notes) states

GROUP: Effects and Analysis

  • (macOS) ‘’‘Many items in the Generate, Effect and Analyze menus (except for example Plot Spectrum) cannot by default be applied/closed by ENTER on the keyboard unless you first press TAB once.’‘’ Effects which have no text boxes for input values, such as Audacity’s Compressor or most VST or Audio Unit Effects will not respond to the TAB workaround.
** An alternative which avoids having to use TAB is to CTRL + F7 once to enable [https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204434#fullkeyboard Full Keyboard Access] for all applications. In any case, without this setting enabled, it will be impossible to navigate dialog buttons or Audacity Preferences using only the keyboard.

Hi WC,

Thank you for your reply. I had the issue to press tab to a text box in Audacity 2.2.2 and somewhat got used to it. With version 2.3.1 that doesn’t help anymore.

Let’s hope this will get fixed soon as I usually prefer to use the keyboard instead of any pointing device.

OK, I checked the bug report and I’ve seen people already replied with the same issue as I did here.
