I’ve downloaded a few songs from youtube…
The vocals are “down in the mud”…you can hear the vocals but not very well…
Is there a way to “enhance” the vocals…make the vocals louder…
Audacity under Effects does have a Vocal Remover and it works quite well…
Is there some way to make a Vocal Enhancer…???
I’ve tried equalization and compression and I get some help…but would like more…
Many thanks and I hope everyone is doing well during this pandemic…
Steve
There’s only so much you can do with a bad recording or a bad mix…
Boosting the higher frequencies with the Equalizer (maybe above 5kHz) will help to bring-out the “T” & “S” sounds to help with intelligibility. The main vocal range in around 300-500Hz if you want to try boosting that range.
Some low-frequency cut (maybe below 200Hz) may help too but you probably don’t want to kill all of the bass.
Of course, overall the voice covers most of the audio range and virtually all instruments cover the same vocal frequency range (plus more) so you can’t really make adjustments that affect only voice.
If the vocals are in the center of a stereo recording try Vocal Reduction and Isolation with the Isolate Vocals option. If the vocal remover works on these particular songs that means the vocals are centered and vocal isolation should work almost as well to isolate or “bring out” the center.
