effects erasing track

Hey everyone,

I’m new here so thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.

I’ve used audacity successfully on my mac for a couple of years now. I just decided to try to install a copy on my windows 7 virtual machine through parallels. The installation was typical but now, whenever I try to apply any effect, the highlighted portion of the track, as well as a few seconds before and after it are erased, leaving no sound at all. I tried re-installing and I’m still stuck with the same problem.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn’t really recommend running Audacity in a virtual machine - much better to run the native version on real hardware, but regarding your question, upgrade to Audacity 2.0.2 and also check the location of the Audacity Temp folder is valid and writeable (Edit > Preferences > Directories)

Hey Steve,

The only reason I’m trying to run Audacity on the VM is so that I can use 3rd party vst plugins which don’t work on Mac OSX. I checked and I’m running Audacity v2.0.2 and I think the Temp Folder is where it’s supposed to be (C:UsersSamAppDataLocalTempaudacity_temp). How can I check if it’s writable?

Good. (though you posted in the 1.3.x forum).

Try creating or moving a file to that folder.

and you are logged into Windows as “Sam”?

Yes, I am logged in as Sam and I was able to move a file to that folder. Should there be anything in the Temp folder? Other than the file I moved, it’s empty.

If the project has not been saved, there should be all of the audio data. If the project has been saved, it would normally be empty and the audio data would be in the project _data folder. (see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_projects.html)

Thanks Steve, somehow the problem resolved itself. Merry Christmas
