Editing section out of audio track to create new audio track

Hello,

I hope I can explain what I want to do. It’s pretty simple but I am not sure how to explain it. I am working with Windows 8.

I have a track that is 1 hour long. I want to edit the last 30 minutes approximately out of that and create a new 30 minute track.

I have tried to enter selection start and then end. Then I export selection but when I play back, it ends up being the entire hour long track.

Thanks for your help.

Eunice

Two ways to do it:

  1. Select the last half hour (the part that you want to remove) (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html) then press the Delete key to delete the selection, then Export (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/file_export_dialog.html). Ensure that you use a new unique file name so that you don’t overwrite your original file.

  2. Select the first half hour (the part that you want to keep), then Export using “File > Export Selected Audio…” (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/file_menu.html#Export_Selection…). Again, ensure that you use a new, unique file name.
