editing out errors and continuing in same track[SOLVED]

I am trying to record a business presentation to send to a prospective client but I need to be able to pause when I make an error, edit out the error back to a certain spot, and then unpause the recording so I can make it right then. But the only way I find to delete part of what I havd recorded is to hit stop and then when I hit record again it starts recording on a new track instead of picking up where I need to on the old one. What do I do?

Stop (spacebar or Stop button)
Edit (usually just select and delete - Del key)
Append record (shift + R)

I am using Windows XP. Maybe that is the difference, I don’t know. Yes, that is what we do to delete what we want to take out, and shift + R does make it start recording again, but like I said, it starts a new track instead of recording in the track I edited. Is there no way to edit out and start to record after the edit in the same track? Thanks, kngsfund

Check that you are using the current 2.0.3 version of Audacity (look in “Help > About Audacity”).
If you are using and older version, shift+R may not be supported. The latest version is always available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

If you are using 2.0.3 and shift+R still does not work, then try restoring the key bindings to their default settings: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/keyboard_preferences.html

Mine says it is 1.2.6
I will try to download the newer one and then try again and look at the manual if I need to.
thanks so much, this is real important to my work right now, kingsfund.

!.2.6 doesn’t support any of the new tricks like Append Record. Upgrade right away.

I did upgrade and your instructions worked on the new program. Thanks
