Hi – I’m working on editing an audio book. The editing function seems to have a mind of its own. I highlight what I want to cut but it cuts parts that I haven’t highlighted. The snap to function is off. The other problem I’m having is that it won’t save my file. It looks like its saving and then at the end gives me an error message. Any ideas? This has been very frustrating! Thanks.
What is the error message?
Audacity will not Save a sound file. You have to Export to get one and it won’t make an MP3 without adding special software.
You can get into troubles by putting punctuation marks inside filenames. Use the ISO form of date. Today is 2014-12-11.

What version of Audacity and what version of OS X?
– Bill
OS X is 10.9.5 and Audacity is 2.0.6
Keep going please. What was the error message and are you putting dates in your filenames?
Koz
All it says is, “error to writing file.”
Thanks for sticking w/ me!

Instead of just letting Audacity do its thing, force it to Save (or Export) a file to your desktop. That and just for testing, call the file something super simple with no punctuations marks.

I don’t recall ever seeing that exact error message. What exactly were you trying to do when you got the error message? Save project? Save project as? Export audio? Export selection? Export multiple?
– Bill
That is a little odd. Did you run out of hard drive?
From the desktop: Go > Computer.
Control-Click on the little hard drive icon > Get INFO.
Read Capacity and Available.

Error writing to file?
I’m dyslexic not.
