I use Audacity to edit mp3 spoken word stuff…its a great tool. Thanks to the authors. lately I have been downloading these sermons from a guy who obviously needs a better sound engineer. The speaker moves all over the place …away from the mic and close to the mic. Inconsistent
sound levels and quality. I tried the FX for volume and sound levels etc… but get mediocre results. What do you do to just stabilize volume at good level and fix the loud/quiet problems…??
You could use a “compressor” effect to even out the volume, for example: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/compressor.html
If the volume changes are very great, then you may need something stronger, such as this “Level Speech” plug-in: https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Level_Speech
This is a “Nyquist Plug-in”. Installation instructions are here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_effect_generator_and_analyzer_plug_ins_on_mac_os_x.html#nyquist_install
Probably the “best” (but very time consuming) method is to use the Envelope Tool: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/envelope_tool.html
