Edit file

Not knowing of AUD 232 with WIN10 has changed I’m requesting help. I have a wav file and I want to copy portions of said file. How do I go about this? I tried to get help but a Windows Media Player opened and then claimed that it could not play the file. So please help me. Thank you.

Windows 10 Professional. Audacity 2.3.2

I have Windows 10 Professional. I have Audacity 2.3.2 A few of the editing features have been eliminated so I’m totally lost. The Help Manual doesn’t make any sense and didn’t work when I tried it. Again, I want to take any sound file like .wav or .mpeg and isolate and copy a portion of a file. For example if I make a sound file and recite the ABC’s I want to copy “h,i,j,k,” and make a separate recording of “h.i.j.k”. As I said things are different with Audacity 2.3.2

Do you mean that when you clicked on “Help menu > Quick Help”, or “Help menu > Manual”, or when you click on one of Audacity’s “?” help buttons, Windows Media Player opens?

If so, then your computer needs to be fixed. The computer should associate HTML and HTM with a web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox, Opera or Chrome).

No editing features have been eliminated, but some of the menu commands have been moved into “sub-menus” so as to reduce the length of the (previously very long) menus.

There’s an on-line version of the Audacity manual here: Audacity Manual

The page about the Edit menu is here: Edit Menu - Audacity Manual

Do you mean that when you clicked on “Help menu > Quick Help”, or “Help menu > Manual”, or when you click on one of Audacity’s “?” help buttons, Windows Media Player opens? YES!!!

I BEG TO DIFFER. “SELECT” USED TO BE UNDER “EDIT”. “RIGHT/LEFT AT PLAYBACK POSITION” IS NOT THERE ANYMORE.

OK. WHAT DO I DO NOW? HOW DO I GET MY PC TO ASSOCIATE HTML AND HTM WITH A WEB BROWSER? WHAT DO I USE TO SUBSTITUTE “RIGHT/LEFT AT PLAYBACK POSITION” NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN ELIMINATED?

OK, PLEASE DISCOUNT THE HTML HTM FIX-IT REQUEST. I RAN INTO THE SOLUTION BY ACCIDENT. IT IS IN “SETTINGS” “APPS” “DEFAULT APPS”. IT WAS SET TO “WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER”. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?

SORRY. YOU WERE RIGHT. IT’S ALL THERE. I JUST MADE AN EDIT. EVERYTHING WORKS PERFECTLY.
