Echo during playback

I have a student working on a project that is experiencing an echo during playback. It seems to begin to play like normal, but then there will be a pop and we hear two versions, one after another with a one second delay. This happens during playback of both voice recording completed in Audacity and imported sound files. We have tried adjusting preferences (Audio I/O) per the advice of other message boards, however, he is using headphones so I don’t believe that this is the problem.

We are using Audacity 2.0.2 on Dell “Latitude” laptops running Windows 7. The other students in the class are using identical computer set-ups and are not experiencing this issue.

Try setting all the preferences back to default values (see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#reset )

Try turning off “Windows Concert Hall Effects.” I got stuck with a machine set that way once and it took me almost an hour to figure out I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Koz
