Dropout Error

Hello, I’m using audacity 2.3.2 on a brand new iMac using macOS Mojave, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 2133 MHz DDR4.

I’m using it to record podcasts- 30 minutes, sometime an hour long. The last two times I’ve recorded, after the recording I get an error message saying there have been dropouts. 5-10 second segments (id say about a dozen of them, maybe more) have been deleted.

Any assistance to prevent this in the future would be appreciated. For now, I’ll have to record on my MacBook Pro, which hasn’t given me any problems yet.

See this FAQ in the Audacity Manual: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#skips

Thank you. I referred to this, and the drop outs have stopped but now I’m having problems with skipping. I hear it after about 6 minutes of recording.

It mentions to change the “audio to buffer” setting in recording preferences. I don’t even see that setting in recording preferences. I see options to change pre-roll and cross fade but nothing about buffer.

There is a “buffer length” setting in the devices portion of preferences. Is that it?

Also, I guess my main concern is that I’ve been using audacity with little to no problems for about 15 years and this is the first time I’ve had drop outs or skips. Is it at all possible that the computer I’m using is the problem?

Yes that’s it.

This is on Windows 10, but it’s very similar on macOS

Got it thanks!
