Hello, I’m a novice Audacity user. I just upgraded my Macbook Pro to El Capitan. I also deleted an old version of Audacity and downloaded 2.1.2. My attempts to drag and drop audio files to the Audacity manipulation pane are rejected including files I have worked on previously. I’m wondering if it’s a download issue that I need to retry or something else. Please help. Thanks, Mark.
Unfortunately there is a bug in Audacity 2.1.2 where drag and drop does not work correctly.
Dragging onto the icon on the Dock should work, as should using “Import Audio” from the File menu.
The problem will be fixed in the next release (I don’t have a date for that).

The bug is fixed, but the fix is not yet in a release.
We do not expect to release 2.1.3 for another two or three months yet. If you sign up to our announcements e-mail list at http://lists.audacityteam.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audacity-announce then you will be notified when there is a new Audacity release.
