I’ve followed all of the videos that show me how to enable the stereo mix, set it as the default device, update my sound card drivers, and set the recording device in audacity as Primary Sound Capture Driver, and unplugged all microphones from the computer. I’ve turned the volume up as loud as I can, but Audacity still won’t record any sounds or music playing on the computer.
I’m using ASUS Sabertooth x79 motherboard, and it has built in audio.
It’s a desktop that I custom built. When I want sound I use the headset. I don’t have speakers hooked up to the computer, because all I have is a 7.1 system and it’s too large for my desk. So I just use my headset.
But I have unplugged the headset while recording, and that still didn’t help.
“Stereo Mix” will record what is playing through your computer sound card, not what is playing through your USB headset - they are different “audio devices”.
Probably the easiest way to approach this would be to get hold of some conventional (not USB) headphone (really cheap ones will do, or headphones from an MP3 player) and plug them into the headphone socket of your sound card.
Get your sysyem to play through these headphones (it may help to plug in these headphones, disconnect the USB headphones and then reboot).
Stereo Mix will then hopefully work.
