I have Audacity 2.0.0, running on MS vista 64 bit. I have downloaded the LAME dll opener several times and when I try to open it, I get a message saying it has quit working and Microsoft is looking for a solution. I tried calling the 877 number on the LAME website, but the number has been discontinued.
Please help!

Audacity doesn’t use the generic lame. You should get it direct from us.

That is exactly what I did.
I get a box asking what program I want to open with and when I check “search the files opened web site for safe programs that can open your .dll file”, it takes me to the website and when I try to run it, the computer says there is a problem. I’ve tried several times and get the same message. Can’t put a screen shot on this message, apparently, or I would show you.
This is what I get when I try to open it.

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
(only option is “cflose program”.
Which file are you trying to run?
You should not be trying to run a dll file. See here for instructions for installing LAME: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#lame
