I just updated to 3.7.0. I am trying to record line out from a turntable into the analog audio inputs on my computer. I have adjusted the audio level on the Audacity fader and it does bring the volume level down, but it is still distorted in the peaks. On the waveform, the peaks are flattened out. I tried to attach a screenshot of the waveform but couldn’t. Anyway, the upshot is that I can make the input quieter, but it is still distorted. This worked fine yesterday before I went to 3.7.0. Is there anywhere to tell Audacity what kind of input it is getting?
Do you have a desktop/tower computer with a regular soundcard and line inputs (usually color-coded blue)?
No, I had it going into the pink mic input. I don’t remember when or why it wound up that way, but it has worked fine like that for quite awhile. Plugging it into the blue input seems to have made Audacity happy. Thanks very much!
FYI - A line-level signal is about 100 times stronger than a microphone signal (depending on the loudness of the sound and the sensitivity of the mic).
And, most mic preamps built-into laptops & soundcards are low-quality (noisy) and often mono.
Thanks so much for the information!
