digitizing albums

I have a USB Phono Plus Project Series preamp and a Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6. I have my turntable connected to the Phono Plus and the PP to my Mac via a USB connection. No sound, no levels, nothing from my turntable. Yes, I’m a complete NOOB, so I’m wondering what simple thing I’m not doing to get this working. I just want to rip a bunch of vinyl onto my computer…

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have a start with this set of Tutorials from the Audacity Manual: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html

particularly this one: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/recording_with_usb_turntables.html

This workflow should be useful too: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/sample_workflow_for_lp_digitization.html

Thanks for the reply. I’ll check out the links you posted.
When I go to System Preferences and click Sound and select the USB Audio Codec, I get input levels indicated. But when I hit “record” on Audacity, I get this error message:
error code: -9986 Internal PortAudio error
I’ve Googled this and only get forum discussion about Windows solutions. I’m running on a Mac Sierra 10.12.6
