Hi all. I am a complete tech idiot. But I am desperate. I have a neighbour who has had (and gotten rid of) three kelpie pups. They are never trained, and as a result, they bark constantly day and night. I have a severe auditory disability and it actually hurts my ears as well as seriously interrupts my sleep. Previously I have been manually recording and then playing sound so I can do a dog barking diary. The owner has so far given up two dogs to Council rather than face fines. But it is such a long process. A friend recommended Audacity and I have seen some tips etc to find the barks etc. However, I have no idea what most of the tips mean. Is there anyone kind enough to teach me or give me simple instructions on how to identify and then save these recordings for Council? Many thanks in advance. This has been going on for two years.
What or who is Council? How did you record before?

Hi. Council is the local government authority in Australia which manages these kinds of complaints. I hope you can help. Thanks. Gavin
Maybe not as much as you want. It’s been our experience that the dog almost always wins. That and recording the barking might make you feel better, but it does nothing to solve the problem. The authorities will do almost anything to avoid getting in the middle of one of these complaints.
We have a neighbor dog that goes full-voice security mode most of the day. It makes it almost impossible to Work From Home for the Neighbors East and I can’t record voice while that’s going on. Doesn’t matter how much soundproofing I throw around.
In our case, I think Nature has solved the problem. It was a very old dog. The barking got weaker and weaker and we think it died.
Sorry,
Koz
Hi. I was asking for help. Thanks so much for that. As I have already said, I have already ‘won’ several times with Council. It may be that way in your country, but not everywhere. If you don’t or can’t help, it may have been better to not answer at all.
And I asked how you did that and you didn’t tell me.
A description of how you succeeded would go a long way to design or envision an Audacity process.
