Delete a section of an audio file

All I want to do is remove one verse of a hymn I have in an MP3 file. Nothing I try seems to work. I have read and re-read the online manual and I still don’t get it. The section to be removed is from 1:35 to 2:23

You have to select* the section you want to delete. Then apply delete.
