Decrease amplitude

Hi Audacity forum,

I inserted a new piece of track into a longer recording and the new insert is louder than the original recording. I can’t find the help section that talks about decreasing the amplitude to match the original. Can anyone help?

Many thanks, Judy

You can use the Envelope Tool (two white arrows and bent blue line). The tool produces two blue rubber bands top and bottom of the show. Grab and pull the blue lines and the volume will decrease at that point.

This is a cross-fade using the Envelope Tool.

One track is reduced and the other boosted.

If you want to reduce the level of an entire track, use the track Gain slider. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audio_tracks.html#gain

Thank you both. I appreciate it! Judy
