Cutting the intro and one section in the middle of a track

I am trying to cut the intro off a track I have imported, and also a small section in the middle of the track then for the two pieces of the track to play together.

I have managed to select the first section of the track I want to use and duplicate it, but now I cant select the second section and paste it together. Am I doing this completely wrong?

Probably the easiest way would be to select the intro and delete it, then select the other part that you want to delete and delete that.
On the other hand, it sounds like the way that you are trying to do it should also work. Note that for most actions it is necessary for playback to be stopped (not just paused).
