Tonight, editing on Audacity, every time I stop or pause then play the audio again, it crackles. Never had this before. The audio is, I think, fine. Not sure what the issue is. Maddening.
Checked my headphones on another device and it all works fine, so it’s not the headphones.
Played the audio that crackles on VLC Player and that’s all fine, still through the same mixer and headphones I’m using with Audacity?
Is this Audacity playing up? Using version 3.03.
Just to reiterate, the issue flares up when I stop or pause then play the audio again within Audacity only.
I’ve installed an older version of Audacity now 2.4.2 that works fine on my laptop. I work from a desktop now and that’s worked fine until tonight. Just tested it and the crackling is still there.
Again, this is a brand new issue. Never encountered in 13 years of using Audacity.
Thanks.
The issue is much worse today. I installed an earlier version of Audacity last night 2.4.2 and suddenly the issue disappeared but it’s back tonight.
Is there anyone from Audacity on here that might be able to advise please as it’s near impossible to edit like this.
Thank you.
I suspect one of the reasons elves aren’t racing to your rescue is your scrambled question.
We have to build your system or environment in our heads to analyze the possible failures.
You lost us the instant you threw two computers in the mix. I read that multiple times and I can’t follow it.
That on top of having a “magic” problem. I’ve never heard of sound damage caused by just stopping or pausing your edit.

The two stable Audacity versions are 2.4.2 and 3.4.2. Other versions need not apply.
We’re going to recommend sooner or later to restart the machine. Use Clean Shutdown.
Shift+Shutdown > OK > Wait > Start. Don’t let anything else start. Did it solve the problem, or did the problem change?
