Select the option:
“Treat missing audio as silence (this session only)”
Then from the Help menu, select “About Audacity” and make a note of the Audacity version number.
Then close Audacity.
What is the version number of Audacity?
Steve,
Thank you. The version of Audacity is 2.2.2.
I did what you suggested and the recording began with a few words and then silence after that.
Please let me know what do I do next?
Thanks again.
David
Is it possible that this project could have been created with an earlier version of Audacity?
There was a nasty bug in Audacity 2.2.1 (and possibly 2.2.0) that could cause this problem if the project was overwritten using the “Save Project As…” command (rather than saving changes with the usual “Save Project…” command). If that is what has happened, then the damage is permanent and the lost data is gone forever.
If that’s not what happened, then I’m stumped. You could try searching your computer for “.au” files just in case they accidentally got moved somehow (but I don’t think that is likely).
