Correcting distortion? (2.1.0)

I have trouble finding a way to correct distortion that is audible at positions 8.5s - 12s. The new Audacity has excellent new Specktrum editing plug-in[1]. I have tried to use the tool by selecting ranges of “white” energetic parts and applying the “Effect > Spectral edit parametric EQ” with -10 dB (or multiple of it) at various positions (e.f. plot spektrum’s low peak 500 Hz, and by ey on other points), but the results has not been very satisfactory.

Is there any way to make the hard distortion somewhat not so disturbing as it is now? The excerpt of selected area is attached after the pictures.

In general you can’t fix distortion. Distortion tends to be broad band and if you try to filter it out, usually “the cure is worse than the disease”. Pros still record in soundproof studios with very good equipment because there is only so much you can do with software.

There is a Clip Fix effect but it doesn’t look like you have clipping (the most common kind of distortion). When I tried Clip Fix once, it made the waveform look better, but it didn’t remove the sound of the distortion.
