Copying Cassettes to Audacity

2.4.2 Windows 10 64

Have a ton of cassettes I want to place on CD. The process seems simple enough, I think. Just replace the turntable with the cassette? Or do cassette players use a non-compatible format? Huummmm. Anyway, my question deals with selection of a cassette player. I found that my ancient TEACs drive belts are all destroyed. I can replace them but some are three levels down in the machine and the repair may be beyond my skill level. I have a bunch of old walk -man type players but they too have broken belts and I don’t know if they will produce a decent product if repaired. Can anyone recommend a basic player that will not cost a weeks pay but produce decent output. Thanks for your thoughts

You need a soundcard or audio interface with a line-level input. (A headphone output to the line input will also work).

…The mic input on a soundcard/laptop is about 100 times too sensitive, and it’s usually mono.

I can’t make a recommendation. A lot of people have trouble with those cheap little “cassette USB converters”, but when the work I don’t know what kind of audio quality you get.

B & H has a decent selection of cassette decks, some with USB so you don’t have to worry about making an analog connection to your computer.
