Copying and Pasting into a different track

Hi there,

I’m using OSX 10.9.4 with Audacity 2.0.5.

I am wondering if there is any way to copy a clip (or a portion of a clip) from one track and paste it into a different track while maintaining the timing of the track I am pasting into without having to uncheck ‘Editing a clip can move other clips’ in Preferences?

These are the steps on Linux. On Mac it should be the same but with “Command” replacing “Ctrl”.

  1. Select the part that you want to copy.
  2. Ctrl+C (Copy)
  3. Enter (toggle the track selection off)
  4. Up/Down cursor keys to move ‘focus’ to the track where you want to paste (the track with ‘focus’ has a yellow line around it).
  5. Enter (toggle track selection on)
  6. Ctrl+V (Paste)
