Copies wont pan

So I have imported podcast audio to edit in Audacity 2.4.2, everything has been going fine, but I just discovered that I can only pan the original track to Center from Left or Right. The OT is imported as a stereo with One speaker on the Left and One on the Right. When I toggle the main tracks to center, they easily roll over. However if I copy and past a piece into a new track, and pan to center, the new copy will not pan. I have discovered that If I pan to Center on the OT then the copies do sit at Center. My question is: Is there a way to get the copied tracks to fill to Center, or am I SOL? I discovered this after days of work on my first 3 episodes, and I do not understand why it would not make an exact copy of all properties of the OT. Please help?

For clarity, please avoid using abbreviations.
“other track”?

“Toggle”?
Which “main tracks”?
What does “easily roll over” mean?

In short, I’ve no idea what that sentence means.

However if I copy and past a piece into a new track, and pan to center, the new copy will not pan.

What is the “piece”? Selected audio from another track?
Are the tracks mono or stereo?
Why will it not pan? Can you move the Pan slider?


It may be easier to start your question again, and describe clearly what you are doing, what is happening, and what the problem is.
