Constant message of: "Audacity is already running"

After updating my Mac laptop to the new Mojave OS I can not get Audacity to open.

Audacity keeps telling me that another operating system is already in use
and that I need to turn one of them off.

I have downloaded several version of Audacity and keep receiving the same
message of:

“Audacity is already running
The system has detected that another copy of audacity s running.
Running two copies of Audacity simultaneously may cause data loss or cause
our system to crash…etc.”

There are no other audacity programs running, just the one and that’s no
running at all!!!
Can anyone please help?

Mac details are:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
2GHz Intel Core i7
8GB 1600 MHz DDR#

Much appreciated
Fincher

I am experiencing the same trouble as the OP, i.e.- I can’t open Audacity because it is already running. But I can’t find WHERE it is already running. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Apple and they did everything they could think of, but no dice.

“Help me, Audacity Help Forum! You’re my only hope.”

I have:
MacBook Air
Mojave 10.14.1
Audacity 2.3.0

Thank you.

The “Audacity is already running” problem occurs when Audacity is not shut down properly, leaving a “lock file” in place even though Audacity is not actually running. To fix the problem, you need to manually delete the lock file. See here for details: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/audacity-is-already-running-error-solved/49717/4
