Clipping the end of a recording

I am guessing this is a pretty elementary process, but I can’t work out how to do it.
If I don’t stop a recording session when the source input has finished how do I trim off the unwanted blank tail of the recording?

Bill.

Press the Stop button to stop the recording (editing is not possible while recording or when “paused”).

Click on the audio track at the end of the recorded audio and, while holding down the left mouse button, drag to the end of the track, then release the mouse button. The excess recording is now highlighted (“selected”).

Click the “Del” button on your keyboard.

Other ways to “select” parts of an audio track are described in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html

Holy cow! I’ve been doing the stop and hilight bit but then I was trying to find an option in ‘File’ or ‘Edit’. It never occurred to me to use the keyboard ‘Delete’!

Thanks Steve, much appreciated.

Bill.

If you are using the current 2.0.6 version of Audacity, then “Delete” is in the “Edit” menu (4th item down). If it’s not there then you are using an old version of Audacity. The current version is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
