Change Audacity configuration file location

We use Audacity in our school and we have a problem with our students accessing the program. When they start the program it comes up with “The configuration file could not be accessed”
The location of the file is on a server in their profile folder and is something that can’t be edited.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to point the file to a different location?
Thanks,
Matt
