Can't Record

Hello!

I’ve used Audacity for several years now, and I upgraded today to the newest version.

In the past, I’ve been able to record anything playing through my computer’s speakers easily.

Now, I can’t get it to do so, no matter what I do.

I’ve tried to find the answer to my problem here and in the FAQ page, but if it’s there, it’s hiding from me.

Can someone help?

It should be a matter of pulling down the audio input selector (microphone symbol) and picking the same thing you used to pick before – typically Stereo-Mix, or WAV-Out. Something like that.

Older versions of Audacity would occasionally configure this tool wrong and it wouldn’t work, but the later versions work very well.

You may need to go into the Windows Control Panels to make sure Stereo-Mix is still available – and select it there to make sure. If it doesn’t appear there, then there’s something wrong and Audacity will never find it. Windows has to be configured first.

Thanks!

I tried all the different configurations in Audacity, and it didn’t find it.

Windows recently “automatically” updated, so that could be the problem - where do I look in Windows for that?

What options are there in the Recording Input section of the Device Toolbar? http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar

On mine it’s Start > Control Panels > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio > Sound Recording > Realtek AC97 Audio > Volume > [X] Stereo Mix.

That fixed it!

The “Mute” button was checked on the Line Level…

Duh…

THANKS!
