Can't record using spdif

Audacity 2.3.0
MacOS 10.14.2

I’m trying to record audio directly from my Sony 601-esd PCM unit into my laptop using a Focusrite Clarett interface and the SPDIF connection. I can monitor the audio from the headphone jacks on the Clarett but Audacity isn’t receiving it. Audacity has the audio device set as Clarett 4Pre USB, which should be correct.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I can hook up the analog outputs of the 601-esd to the Clarett and record that into Audacity just fine. Why won’t it pick up the SPDIF digital output?

SPDIF is a cousin to broadcast audio which runs at 48000, 16-bit, Stereo. I don’t think there are any options. Try setting the capture to that.

Thanks, but the 601-ESD is most definitely not 48000; it predates that as an option. I have heard that it actually samples at 44056 rather than 44100. In any case, where would I set these options? In Audacity?

  1. In the Quality tab of Preferences -
  2. in the dropdown menu for Default Sample Rate
  3. select Other
  4. type in your preferred rate
  5. Press the OK
