Can't record anything

Hey guys.
I’ve been having a little trouble with recording virtually anything on Audacity. I’ve used the program many times before without any problems, but now it doesn’t want to do anything. I’m guessing the problem lies somewhere with my computer not wanting to coopoerate with it for some reason.

My computer is an ASUS Vivobook running Windows 11. My issue is that whenever I try to create a recording track, I get an error message. Most often it’s the -9999 Unanticipated host error message, but if I change the host to Windows WASAPI, I instead get the -9996 Invalid device error message. I’m quite sure I’ve tried every possible configuration to try to find one, where it would work, but I can’t seem to find one. I’ve also tried to download different earlier versions of Audacity to see if this would help, but it’s all the same. I’ve also tried to check in my computer’s setting, if there was some dependency that wasn’t in order, but as far as I’ve been able to find, everything either should’ve already been in order, or has been set in order, though without any results.

At first when I encountered this problem, I was trying to record through my Focusrite 2i2, so I thought that might be the problem, but I’ve later found that no matter how I try to record, I get an error.
I have however found that if I try to use my old computer instead (an HP Pavillion also running Windows 11), everything works fine, and I can’t seem to find any setting that differs there from what I have on my new computer.

One solution could of course be to only use my old computer, when I want to record, but I sure would prefer, if I could get it to work on my new computer.

Has anyone had similar problems to this and have found a solution? Or does anyone know of any tips that might help me?

Thank you in advance!

Sorry if this is dumb question, but is the driver installed for the Focusrite?

And I think the Focusrite comes with some kind of control-utility and that may be “interfering” somehow.

Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.

I don’t think Windows Permissions/Privacy Settings will cause an error code but it might be worth checking.

There might be a setting for Exclusive Mode and maybe another application has taken-over the interface. (I can’t find that setting on the Win10 machine I’m on now…)

There is some information about error codes in the Audacity Manual but it may not be of much help…

The driver is installed, so that’s not the issue. Fair question tho.
The problem doesn’t seem to be that the computer and the Focusrite can’t communicate properly. When it’s connected, I can easily choose it as device for both sound input and output, but it just won’t record.
I think the problem must lie somewhere in the computer itself, as even when I’m not using the Focusrite and just trying to record with the computer’s own microphone (which I know works), the problem is exactly the same.
And I have double checked in the settings that the permissions are in order for the microphone. I have also tried disabling exclusive mode, and that didn’t work either.

I just posted a similar but different problem in recording. One thing that I did, that didn’t help, is download all current drivers for my 3 components(M-AUDIO keyboard, Focusrite, and Audacity).
