Cant record and hear my beat at the same time?

So I have a laptop it was windows vista but I now have windows 7 on it. My problem is that I cant record my vocals and hear my beat at the same. I know for a fact that all my equipment works, I think its a sound card issue? So I go on audacity, I can import my beat listen to it just fine. I can record my vocals just fine, the problem is I cannot do both at the same time, which is no good. So any solutions that any knows about? Thanks Shawn.
