Audacity 1.3.13 on Mac OSX 10.6.8: Voice activated recording working fine with mike and Sounc Activation Level at 37, but clicking on Pause button does not Pause the recording. Why? I just want to be able to pause, start recording again, pause again, etc. As it is, I have to dictate the entire text all at one-- can’t pause, and if I Stop, then it starts a whole new recording on top of my existing recording, which is no help at all.
Audacity 1.3.13 is obsolete and no longer supported. The current version is 2.1.0 and is available here: http://web.audacityteam.org/download/mac
It is good if you update to 2.1.0 as Steve suggested, but Sound Activated Recording will behave the same in 2.1.0 - you cannot manually pause it because it is paused automatically when the volume of the sound coming in falls below the Sound Activation Level. It might be possible to code it so that it does accept a manual Pause request - do you want us to make a note of that idea?
But if you want to pause, why not just stop speaking, then the recording should pause? If it does not pause then your noise level on the mic is arguably too high, but you can solve it by raising the Sound Activation Level.
If you do want to manually Stop, you can SHIFT-click on the Record button which will record at the end of the same track.
