Can't operate on just a clip

I’m using version 3.2.3 on an M1 MacBook Pro, OS 12.6.2.

I must be missing some option somewhere, because the way it’s acting just doesn’t seem normal for a DAW. I’m having two problems, both of which are probably related:

  1. I have a project with several tracks, and each track contains multiple clips. If I click on one clip and drag, it drags all clips in all tracks, which is not what I want. I only want to drag that one clip without affecting other tracks or clips. If I hold Shift, that drags all clips in the track, which is also not what I want.

  2. If I click on a clip’s title bar and then cut it, the duration of that clip is removed from all tracks. I want to just cut the clip, not all tracks. The same sort of thing happens when using tools like Trim: all tracks are affected, not just the selected clip.

What am I doing wrong?

Check that Tracks (menu) > Sync-lock Tracks is not selected.

If an entire track is selected, all clips will move together and all editing operations will apply to all clips in the track. Similarly if multiple tracks are selected.

That was it! I knew it was something simple I was missing.

Which was it? Sync-lock, or selecting multiple clips and tracks?
– Bill

It was sync lock. Once I turned that off, things operated as expected.
