I couldn’t find an existing topic that covered this exactly. I recorded these files on a Windows machine (likely XP) back in 2007 or 2008. I’m currently using an Intel MacBook Pro that’s probably about six or seven years old, and trying to open the .aup’s with Audacity 3.6.4. I get this error:
Error while processing /Volumes/Drive1/Audacity/Song_1_data/b00080.au Inserting silence.
“Audacity version 3.x cannot open projects from Audacity 1.x, The workaround is to open the 1.x project in Audacity 2.x, save it as a 2.x project and then open the 2.x version of the project in Audacity 3.x.”
Your post has been marked because it’s damaged. The words that are clear seem to be presenting an idea or opinion, but they’re not all there. They’re cut off. Also, they seem to be replying to the wrong message.
The forum doesn’t like damaged posts.
From what’s been presented so far, I’d say your machine was compromised.
Once you’ve opened the old projects and saved them in version 2.4.2 you will be able to open them in version 3.6.4 if you want to. Version 3.6.4 has a lot of nice features, best of which (in my opinion) is real time effects.
Something is wrong. The forum will not let me approve your last message even though it seems OK. No obvious trigger words or phrases. I’ve never seen that before.
“…you don’t need to exaggerate using your fantasy.”
Actually, I do. Sometimes that’s the only way to make sense of someone’s post when they don’t offer enough information. That’s a cousin to my other troubleshooting technique: “If someone wrote me a big check, how would I intentionally create the posted damage?” Working backwards. Pure fantasy.
“…every week or so…”
Maybe the forum hates you posting on Thursday?
I know we’re going to laugh about this later when we figure out what’s wrong.
I exported all of the old files I’ve been wondering about lately. Just made some MP3’s so I could see what they were. And…drumroll, please…they were mostly really bad old songs that I can delete now. Some of them embarrassingly bad. I’ve improved a bit over the last 17 years.
Can you see my copy of your message? That may be the work-around. Draw a border around your text message and copy it to a picture. Then post the picture instead of the text. The file posting icon is the heavy bar with up arrow.
