So i cant open audacity because it has multiple copies running when it doesn’t and i’ve heard this is a lockfile issue but i cant seem to find it and none of the forum posts help
Have you restarted your computer?
The lock file is in ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/SessionData.
To get to the audacity folder:
Select and copy this next line to your clipboard (Command + C):
~/Library/Application Support/audacity/
Switch to the Finder
Click on the “Go” menu, and choose “Go to Folder”
Right click and “Paste” (or Command + V)
Look in the SessionData folder and trash any file you find there.

Any other suggestions?
Can’t get Audacity to run / can’t find locked file either?
Please advise.
Thank you,

I have same issue, would like to use this software but can’t. I deleted, downloaded again. I do not have a library folder or a temp file out there. I am on most current MAC OS system. I downloaded the most recent app for audacity. Please let me know why some have this “library” folder and some do not. I would like to have tried that but no folder. Will this issue happen a lot? We have three people that will be using this app and one is not good with technology. Please help. Thank you.
this “library” folder
It’s not the Library folder. It has to be ~/Library. you have to put the “~” mark in there. There are two Libraries, so if you get the wrong one it doesn’t just fail, it actually sends you to the wrong place and pretends everything is OK.

Assuming that you downloaded from the official download links (https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/), re-downloading is very unlikely to help.
On the other hand, if you have the same problem as the original poster, then following the instructions from my previous post will fix the problem.
