can't install extra effect settings?

I have audacity 2.0.3 on a windows 8 lenova laptop.

I have recently tried adding a few different functions to the effects bar such as evo auto tune kerovee and gsnap.

I found that other people had a similar problem to this, but my issue is that even though I have copied the necessary problems into the plugins folder I have not even been prompted to answer if I wanted these files installed or not. They don’t show up in my effects bar.

I’m unsure if maybe I need to install audacity 2.1.1 or if maybe these programs are not supported by audacity.

Thanks in advance

I can testify that Gsnap & Kerovee work in 2.0.6 & 2.1.1. [ running in Windows Vista]
Audacity 2.1.X allows real-time adjustment of effects, including Gsnap ,
( some teething problems real-time adjustment though : occasional crashes ).

Recently [2.1.X ?] there is a new way of adding plugins to the effects list : you have to click on the word “Manage” which is at the very top of the effects list. Then you are shown a list of the plugins you’ve installed , you “enable” the ones you want to see on the effects list, then press “OK”.
Audacity 2-1-1 , click on ''Manage'' to add effects to effects list.png

“Manage” is new in 2.1.1. You should use that version if possible.

For 2.0.3 you would have to open the Effects Preferences. Under “VST Effects”, put a check mark in “Rescan VST effects next time Audacity is started”. Exit Audacity and launch it again.

Hey everyone thanks for the replies! I will probably switch over to ver 2.1.1 as it sounds like the interface is a little better and easier as far as managing extensions.
Thanks again.

I’m having the same problem. I downloaded GSnap, and I did all of the steps required, then went to manage, but every time I enable GSnap and click okay, it “successfully” enables it. However, when I go to add the effect, it isn’t even on the effects list. I’ve restarted the application and reinstalled GSnap, but it still doesn’t work

To avoid confusion with other posts in the same topic, it’s almost always best to start a new topic. Always give us your version of Audacity (all three numbers) and your exact version of Windows - please see the pink panel at the top of the page.

The usual mistake users make with GSnap is to install the 64-bit version. Audacity will only see 32-bit plugins (without a lot of messing about). So download the 32-bit version of GSnap.

Another mistake is to download the latest GSnap on Windows XP. GSnap used to work on XP Service Pack 3 but might no longer do so. If that is the problem, try one of the early GSnap versions from here: http://web.archive.org/web/20060601000000*/http://www.gvst.co.uk/gsnap.htm.
