Can't import MP4

Hello,
I originally had audacity doing this but I didn’t use it for a while and now it won’t work. I have updated audacity and figure that might be part of the problem.

I have Audacity 2.3.3

I have updated my OBS software. It was recommended I use MKV format to save then use the remux option to get an MP4. I did this fine and can even watch the video. I want to edit to add my mic trac to the video. I recorded it on a separate track and I need to use audacity to separate the audio file.

When I tried to pull the mp4 save file I got the error message stating I needed a different file type. I had already installed the library file to fix this on a previous occasion and had the program working. Now I can’t process this mp4 file any more. Like I said, I had it working at one point. I just can’t figure out why it is not working now.

I am on win 10 and was before.

I tried to redownload the file needed and reinstall it, but it did not help.

It was ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.zip file.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this? I’m still learning my way around audacity and while I’ve watched videos on you tube, I can’t figure out what to do to fix this. I’ve done what they’ve told me to do so I must be missing something here.

Thanks.

Never mind. I found the problem. Apparently you can not transfer empty tracks into audacity.

When I quit trying to transfer the entire file, and just found the game sound track and my mic track, and can now work w/ them. Now that I think about it, I think this is how I did it before.

It’s still weird though. I would have thought it would have ignored the empty tracks when I tried to drag and drop the whole thing.
