Can't hear what I'm recording on USB tape deck

v 2.0.5 / Windows 7 Pro
First time user. Trying to transfer cassette and vinyl recordings using ION U-Record interface. Cassette recorder and turntable correctly connected via front panel USB of Dell PC. Was able to use basic “EZ Record” software that came with it. No problem with audio monitoring while recording using “EZ Record”. Uninstalled it.

Installed and updated Audacity. Followed manual and FAQ. Meters show input and output, but nothing coming through speakers. No problem with audio monitoring while recording using “EZ Record”. Uninstalled it. Now with Audacity, I have no monitor although I’ve got levels in the meters. What have I done wrong? Set up problem, or something I’m overlooking in the PC control panel? Can someone please walk me through this?

Look in Device Toolbar . Set the second (output) box to your computer speakers, then look in the Transport Menu at the top and make sure Software Playthrough has a tick (checkmark). If it does not, click it to turn it on.

Thank you, Gale. I had the output device set to “USB Audio CODEX” instead of “conexant HD” speakers.
