This is my first post. I just recorded the first of thirty spoken vocal tracks, and (having installed LAME as instructed) converted the audacity file to an MP3. I can open the mp3-- and so can my partner, who I sent it to-- but I/we can’t hear any audio at all. There was audio coming through my headphones (plugged into my Blue Yeti mic) in my playback… so something odd is happening in the translation to MP3. Any ideas?
Does it work if you export as WAV?
I can open the mp3
So, you have a silent file? The cursor moves in your player application, and the the playing time is correct?

Did you play back the recording in Audacity after recording, or were you just hearing it “live” while were recording? Did you see the meters moving and did you see a waveform in Audacity? (Windows has separate recording & playback mixers so you don’t always hear exactly what’s being recorded.)
Did you save the Audacity project or just the MP3 file? (I usually recommend saving as WAV immediately after recording even if you don’t save your Audacity project, just in case something “unexpected” happens.)
