I have very successfully been able to use Audacity on my PC for Karaoke recording using VLC to read and play the CD+G Karoke video lyrics and music, with vocals added using a jack mic plugged into my sound card. Just received a USB Samsung Meteor Mic as a gift and cannot seem to find the right combination of Audacity settings and computer sound settings. I can get either to record independently, but not simultaneously. I am using Audacity 2.1 and Windows 7.
Any help would be appreciated.
“2.1” is not made by us, unless that was a typo. I suggest you obtain the current 2.1.2 from http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows.
You are not doing it the best way. Record the VLC playback into an Audacity track using stereo mix or Windows WASAPI loopback, then change recording device to your USB mic and record that. Recording will play the song in the Audacity track as long as Transport > Overdub is enabled. That way, you can edit the song and your rendition separately.
If you must record both together, you will have to open Windows Sound, Recording tab, double-click the Meteor, “Listen” tab, then enable “Listen to this device” and choose your built-in sound device as the playback device. Then record from the same source that you use to record from VLC.
As with all software playthrough, there will be a delay with “LIsten” before your voice reaches the sound card to get recorded.

Gale, Thanks for the quick response. I forgot the last .0 My current Aud is 2.1.0. But will download the latest. Don’t get me wrong, I have been more than satisfied for several years now with Audacity after trying many others including some pay types.
I will also try your suggestions for best recording.
