Can't get started !!

Using PC with Windows 7. Downloaded Audacity 2.3.0. On my computer, I have a music playlist. Every time I try and import the music onto Audacity, I get the message, Audacity did not recognize the type of file, try installing FFmepeg. Since the audio file is WPL, I then downloaded an online audio converter, to change WPL into MP3. But when I try this, I get the message, File not supported. Spent 7 hours trying to straighten this all out. I basically have a 32 min file, a lot of songs with no gaps, and I want to isolate some of the songs and put them onto a disc. / Have never used Audacity before, and have never converted WPL into MP3. Yes, I am very bad at computers. Is there a fix that a moron like me might use?

Thanks for reading this.

OK, so it’s a Windows Media playlist.

Windows Media can author and burn an Audio CD, so you may not need to get the music into Audacity. Music CD Authoring programs can arrange music how you like. You don’t need to accept the default list (unless I miss the instructions).

Converting music to MP3, while popular, isn’t the best idea because MP3 causes distortion. If your playlist is clean and good quality, it’s good to convert directly into standard AudioCD which is perfect quality WAV format. I think Windows Media can do that by itself.
