can't figure out how to record tapes

Windows 10, Audacity 2.1.1 downloaded from website

Tape player connected to Behringer UCA202 (Input) then connected to Toshiba Satellite laptop USB.

Settings are MME - Microphone (2-USB Audio CODEC) - 2 (Stereo) Recording - Speakers (2-USB Audio CODEC)

Transport - Software Playthrough checked.

Although I’ve tried it a bunch of different ways. When i play the tape and hit record on Audacity all I get is a straight line with no sound. I’ve read the tutorials and been on youtube and I can’t figure it out. Please help. Thanks.

It is not recommended to watch YouTube tutorials about Audacity - we do not author those. Many YouTube tutorials are either wrong or do not say what version of Audacity they refer to.

However you could look at http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html.

Make sure you connect from the tape deck to the RCA (red and white) inputs of the UCA 202, not the outputs. Do not mute the sound on the tape deck. Connect headphones to the headphones port of the UCA 202 to hear if any audio is reaching it.

Note that officially, Audacity does not yet support Windows 10.
