Can't change Recording level

Hi,

I’m new here. I have been fussing the whole afternoon with this, but I can’t figure it out. I’m recording on a desktop pc from Soundcloud (but it makes no difference where I record from, recording from Media Player give me the same problem). The recording level is in the red, so I want to lower it, but it won’t do it. Even when I lower it to 5% it’s still in the red. Using the slider lower lowers the sound on my speakers, but it doesn’t change the recording level, it remains to be in the red. Wherever I put it, it makes no difference. Any clue how I can lower it? Thanks a lot.

I use Windows 11 and Audacity 3.7.7

I use audio settings:

Host: Wasapi

Playback device: Speakers

Recording device: Speakers
