I’m trying Audacity for the first time. I downloaded and installed version 2.0.3 (the .exe installer) and followed instructions to download Ffmpeg for Audacity. After installing Ffmpeg I closed Audacity and reopened it. But when I try to open a WMA file I still get the message saying that I cannot open that file type. My PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1. What could the problem be?
There is more than one version of WMA. Audacity with FFmpeg can import version 1 but I don’ think the FFmpeg version that we use supports version 2. Audacity does not support DRM protected WMA files.
You can check if FFmpeg is installed by looking in “Edit > Preferences > Libraries”.
The current version of Audacity is 2.0.5 and is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
Is there a way to tell if the .WMA is version 1 or version 2?
